The Wedding between Silk and Wool |

Through research and experiments, the combining of yarns of
different natures in one fabric was achieved in 2008 by Beta Textiles.
The impossible was made possible by experiments and after several
failures. |

Beta Textiles Co., Limited is devoted to the
development and production of high end fabrics at the request of high
end clients from the USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden etc. In the end of
2007, one client from Canada discussed with Beta Textiles Co., Limited
about the possibility of mixing wool and silk, but not in the
traditional way of blended yarn. Rather, one side will be 100% wool and
the other side would be 100% silk. |

Within two weeks, the yarns were in the knitting
workshop. Shortly after, the finished fabric was ready to be made into
flatlock under garments. The hand feel was magnificent. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
In order to release the new products, the client
arranged a conference to release the products. Textile Intelligence
published an article reviewing the difficulties to inter-knit these two
types of yarns in one fabric. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Soon afterwards, the problem on the fabric was
identified by the fabric developer of the client - there is serious
twisting on the fabric after washing, i.e. the spiral stability was not
commercially acceptable. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
However, there seemed to be no way to quit since
many orders had already been placed. By consulting knitting and spinning
experts, Beta Textiles Co., Limited identified the problem and remade
another dyeing lots, which proved to be a success. |

Since Jul 2008, Beta Textiles Co., Limited has been
regularly producing the silk and wool dual layer fabric. It seems the
marriage of wool and silk has given birth to good babies. |
