| Benefits of Merino Wool |
|
| Merino Wool Fibre - the Miracle |
| |
| Merino fibre is much fiber than normal
wool and technically more complex than synthetic fibre. The fiber is
covered with overlapping scales. They are hydrophobic (water resistant),
but in the same time it is highly absorbent inside. |
| |
| Of all fibres, merino wool fibres are
the most water resistant. The fibre can absorb and release 10 times more
moisture than synthetic fibre. One fibre can absorb up to one third of
its own weight in moisture without being felt as clammy or wet to the
hand feel or touch. Underwear or sportswear made of merino wool can
release moisture into the atmosphere to keep you feeling warm and dry. |

| Merino Wool vs Normal Wool |
| |
| Merino wool fibre is only a fraction of
the diameter of normal wool. This is one of the reasons why the normal
wool itches and merino wool does not. The much bigger scales of normal
wool act like barb against sensitive human skin, while fabric made of
merino wool feel like silk, soft to touch. |
| |
| Merino Wool vs Synthetic |
| |
| With a much simpler structure, synthetic
fibres such as polyamide or polyester, are made from melting, extruding
and setting a petrochemical-based product, similar to plastic. Such
fibres can not breathe, absorb or release moisture. When made into
fabric, they are restricted to one-way moisture transfer, with very
limited breathability. A chill zone will be formed when moisture
collects on the outside of the fabric. |
| |
| Merino wool is able to absorb and
release moisture, to cool or warm the body, thus functions as
temperature regulating. |
| The wearer will warm up quickly due to
the exceptional breathability of the fabric. |
| |
| Warmth |
| Outstanding Warmth |
| Merino wool is warm because of the
millions of tiny air pockets in the fabric, which tramp air and lock in
body heat. |
| |
| Heat Generation |
| Merino wool underwear and sportswear use
moisture ti regulate temperature. When it is cold and damp a process
called "heat sorption" kicks in where the fabric actually
generates heat. |
| |
| Body Cooling |
| In a hot environment merino wool garment
keeps the wearer cool through the process of "cooling by evaporation". |
